1600 Calorie Meal Plan

For adults who are moderately active, taller, or moving down from a higher intake and need a little more food than a 1,500 calorie plan.

1600 Calorie Meal Plan

This 1600 calorie meal plan keeps the same simple structure as our lower tiers — breakfast around 400 calories, lunch around 560, dinner around 480 and two snacks near 160 total — but with slightly larger portions of protein and grains to support training days and bigger appetites.

You will find protein at every meal, fiber from vegetables, beans and whole grains, and enough fat to make food taste good without pushing the day over target. The week is written with portions in cups and grams so you can repeat it as often as you like.

Portion guide

Portions are sized for roughly 1,600 calories per day. To move up to 1,800 or 2,000, add 1 oz (28 g) of protein and 1/2 cup (90 g) of grains, plus an extra piece of fruit. To move down to 1,400, trim grains by 1/3 cup (60 g) and drop one snack.

7-day meal plan

Breakfast is about 25% of daily calories, lunch about 35%, dinner about 30% and two snacks make up the rest. Nutrition values are approximate.

Frequently asked questions

Who should choose 1,600 calories?

It suits moderately active adults, taller people, and anyone who has been eating considerably more and needs a comfortable first step. If you are training several times a week or your weight is not moving after two to three weeks, you may need more.

Can I build muscle on this plan?

The plan provides solid protein at every meal, which supports muscle retention during weight loss. Building significant muscle usually benefits from more calories and a structured resistance-training program alongside the plan.

How do I keep meals interesting all week?

Rotate the proteins — chicken, salmon, cod, turkey, beef, tofu — and change the sauce or seasoning rather than the base. A different dressing or spice blend makes the same bowl feel new.
